Florence Noroian

WORCESTER: Florence (Arikian) Noroian, 94, died on Saturday, May 4 in the Jewish Healthcare Center after an illness.

   Her husband Oscar Noroian died in 1996; they were married in 1962.  She leaves three sons; Steven Noroian and his wife Stephanie of North Andover, Paul Noroian and his wife Karine of Hopkinton and Gary Noroian and his wife Melissa of Worcester, a sister Mildred Kandanian of New York City, five grandchildren; Christopher, Ruben, Anna, Gregory & Katherine, and a nephew Thomas Kandanian of New York City.  She was predeceased by a sister Doris Davidian.

   She was born in Manhattan, the daughter of Alexander and Herosuhe (Hagopian) Arikian.  She graduated from George Washington High School in New York City, and the City College of New York.  She was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Savior and very proud of her Armenian heritage.  She was the head clothing buyer for many years at Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, where she had the pleasure of meeting Helen Keller, Thurgood Marshall, and Joe DiMaggio.  She was a member and volunteer at the YMCA.  She was always interested in current events, and she was a strong advocate for progressive causes and women's rights.  In her spare time, she enjoyed playing tennis, cooking, traveling, and listening to jazz music.

 

   The family would like to thank the staff at JHC and JHC hospice for their wonderful compassionate care.  

   A visiting hour will ne held on Friday, May 24th from 10:00-11:00 AM in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury Street, Worcester followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
