HOLDEN-Frances K. (Kelly) Underwood, 90, a life-long Educator for the Town of Holden's Public School System passed away Saturday, November 10 in St. Vincent Hospital.
Her husband, D. Underwood passed away several years ago, and her sister, Rita Kelly of Holden passed away in 2003. She was born in Boston, daughter of Frank M.J. Kelly a proud veteran of WWI and a young emigrant of Poland, Leokadya M. (Radzikowski) Kelly. Her husband sadly passed away after just two years of marriage after which Frances dedicated her life to teaching and molding the young minds of many young boys and girls of the Town of Holden. She was proud to be appointed as the first woman teacher to head the Math Department for Mountview Middle School, a job she loved. After over 40 years of lovingly educating the children of Holden Frances retired. In her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and attending Mass at her church, Our Lady of Good Counsel in West Boylston. Frances always enjoyed giving to organizations that helped others and she will be remembered for being a woman dedicated to contributing to many charities, her favorite being the Salvation Army.
Friends are invited to attend a visiting hour for Frances on Saturday, November 17th from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Frances's life at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester Street, West Boylston. Burial will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 640 Main St., Worcester, 01608.
