Francis J. Canavan, Sr., 68, of 128 Beaver Brook Pkwy. died Thursday, May 12, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after being stricken ill at home.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Ann M. (McKeon) Canavan; three daughters, Ann Marie and her husband Duncan Buhrmester of Waukegan, IL, Theresa and her husband George Loe of New Braunfel, TX and Maureen and her husband Russell Mohamed of Worcester; three sons, Francis J., Jr. and his wife Deanna Canavan of Worcester, John P. and his wife Nancy Canavan of West Boylston and Kenneth M. and his wife Mary Canavan of Spencer; a brother, Thomas and his wife Elaine Canavan of Spencer; a sister Lillian Clifford of Shrewsbury; 12 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A sister, Eleanor Ann Canavan, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Thomas and Alice (Donnelly) Canavan and graduated from South High School and attended the New England School of Accounting. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
Francis owned and operated Ace Pest Control in Worcester for 27 years.
He was a member of the Main South American Legion Post %23341, a former coach for the O'Brien Little League and the Worcester Vikings and enjoyed spending time at Stiles Lake with his grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday, May 16, from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, May 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Give Kids a Chance c/o the Boys & Girls Club, 2 Ionic Ave., Worcester, 01608.
