Francis X. Courtney 93, of 1199 Main St. the Goddard House died Sunday March 31 in the Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 62 years Ellen E. (Eaton) Courtney, four daughters, Eileen C. Rafferty and Kathleen M. Courtney of Worcester, Susan E. Enman of Holden, and Anne C. Olivo of Brunswick, ME, a sister, Eleanor Donovan of Worcester, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. A daughter Martha Courtney of Nashville, TN died in 1978, a sister Elizabeth Birch of Worcester died in 1988. He was born in Worcester son of Michael J. and Hannah M. (Mahoney) Courtney. He graduated from Commerce High School.
He was a printer in the composing room at the Telegram and Gazette for 35 years and then worked for the Worcester Public Library for ten years retiring in 1975. He also worked part-time as a funeral directors assistant in the Worcester area.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, a past member of the Holy Name Society of St. Bernard's Church and was a former member and founder of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He was also a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and the International Typographical Union
A Funeral will be held Wednesday (April3) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 9 Hammond St.(www.faybrothers.com) with a Mass at 1p.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church 1222 Main St. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery. Calling Hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to Nazareth Boy's Home Mulberry St. Leicester 01524 or to the Our Lady of Angels Church Mortgage Fund 1222 Main St. Worcester 01603
