WORCESTER-Frank J. Crean, 82, a retired Worcester firefighter, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Odd Fellows Home. He leaves his wife of 29 years, Marilyn E. (McHenry) Crean; two daughters, Kathleen Crean and her companion, Bill Wagner of CA and Jan; three sons, Stony Burk of NH, Brian Burk of TX and Dan Burk and his wife Deb of ME; a sister Patricia Hine and her husband Joseph of Worcester; two daughters-in-law, Terry Johnson of WI and Frannie Crean of ME. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren and had many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy (Branks) Crean, two sons, Frank and William Crean and a brother, John Crean.
He was born in Worcester, son of Frank and Katherine (Sullivan) Crean and graduated from Commerce High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II, serving in Asia and Pacific including the islands of Tinian and Okinawa. He later served as a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force. Frank was a firefighter for the City of Worcester for forty years, serving on Engine Four, Ariel Scope One and at Central Division. Frank was a devoted family man and he loved dogs, especially his dog Blackie. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, reading and the Red Sox. He will be missed.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 3 in the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main St., Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting hours are Monday, March 2 from 5-7 PM in CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St, Worcester.
