WEST BOYLSTON-Fred H. Fagerquist, 90, passed away at home Thursday, April 14, 2011.

Fred's wife of 54 years, Alice I. (Carlson) Fagerquist passed away in 2000. He leaves his two children, Bruce A. and his wife Sharon Fagerquist of Holden and Elaine C. and her husband Jim Jardine of Ashland; his beloved grandchildren, Kevin, Jennifer, Kristen and Michael and his great grandson, Nolan; nieces and nephews. His brother, Norman Fagerquist predeceased him.

Fred was born in Philadelphia, PA the son of Carl Henry and Judith (Aldrin) Fagerquist. He graduated from North High School in 1939 and from Worcester Industrial Institute in 1941. He later took additional special Tech Courses at the Institute. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1941 and served in the 5th Far East Forces in the South pacific, New Guinea, Philippines and Australia during WW II.

Fred enjoyed playing golf. His favorite hobby, however, was singing. He is proud of his association with the North High Glee Club Chorus where in 1937 they were State Champions. He was a 32 degree member of the Scottish Rite and participated in the Scottish Rite Chorus a short time. He was also a member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club and their singers, the Masonic Blue Lodge, the Morningstar Lodge and Aletheia Grotto.

Fred began his 43 year career at Heald Machine in 1945 and worked as a draftsman, designer, troubleshooter and some field service in custom plants.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011 from 3:00 until 5:30 PM with a funeral service held at 5:30 PM at FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St. Interment will be private.
