WEST BOYLSTON-Fred L. Scales, 84, formerly of Tobin Lane died Tuesday, February 22 in the Oakdale Nursing Center.
His wife of 62 years, Elsie M. (Goodale) Scales died in 2002. He leaves three sons and their wives, Edward H. and Martha Scales of Hiddenite, NC, Malcolm P. and Linda Scales of Sterling and Robert G. and Susan Scales of Oakdale; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Three brothers, John, Albert and Frank predeceased him.
He was born in Dracut son of Albert and Annie (Gillbody) Scales and was a combat engineer in the Army during WW II. Mr. Scales owned and operated Scales Brothers Artesian Well Company for many years before retiring. He was a member of Oakdale United Methodist Church, the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post %23204, the Veterans of Foreign War %236907 and the Boylston Lodge of Masons.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. in Oakdale United Methodist Church, 15 North Main Street. Burial will be private in High Plains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Handicap Access Fund at Oakdale Untied Methodist Church, 15 North Main Street, west Boylston, MA 01583.
