WORCESTER-Garabed Tovmassian 96, passed away peacefully in Worcester at home on January 20th, 2026, with his son Vicken by his side.
Garabed was born on December 17, 1929, in Aleppo Syria to the late Hagop Tovmassian and Farida Pinaji. He is proceeded by his wife Aghavny Kasparian Tovmassian of 65 years. He leaves behind two sons Hagop Jack Tovmassian and wife Tammy D. Tovmassian and son Vicken Tovmassian. Also proceeded by two brothers and two sisters. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends all over the world.
He was a devout member of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Trinity Church in Worcester and well known in the community. Garabed was also well known for his catering in the Worcester community and abroad. He was a member of the knights of Vartan, church chorale, fundraisers, and assorted community events. He also made many religious pilgrimages across the world. He was a craftsman by trade and a locksmith at UMass for many years. He enjoyed volunteering at events and was never happier to be on the grill, bringing smiles to everyone.
We would like to thank the hospice staff and VNA nurses for their efforts and challenging work. Also, a special shoutout to his closest nieces and nephews Sossi, Ani, Hagop, and Deena for being his telephone support through these last several years -thank you.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Wednesday, January 28 with a funeral service beginning at 11:00am at the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove St. Worcester. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
