George Bamikas

George Bamikas, 100 years old, of Worcester, MA passed away surrounded by family & friends on January 7, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital.

 

George is survived by his son Marcus Bamikas of Worcester; his granddaughter Jana Anastasopoulos & her husband Peter of Braintree; his sister Joanna Thoutsis and her husband Nick of Worcester; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

 

George was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Stephanie (Angelos) Bamikas; daughter, Maria (Bamikas) Colletta; parents, Marcus & Mary (Demopoulos) Bamikas; brother, Louis; and sisters, Helen Geranios, Angela Berris & Olga Botchis.

 

Born in Clinton, MA, George served in  the Navy during WWII. He worked as a barber for many years owning & operating Hair Smyth Barber Shop in Fitchburg & Worcester.  George was first and foremost a family man whose favorite pastimes included jitterbugging with his wife, Greek dances at festivals and enjoying family gatherings. George was trained in ju-jitsu & judo, loved riding his motorcycle, woodworking and painting.

 

After moving to Worcester, George became a member of the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and frequented the YMCA. In his later years, he loved spending time with his son watching his favorite movies, taking weekly trips to the casino, dining out, visiting family and friends, and traveling to Cape Cod, Boston & New Hampshire regularly. George was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

 

George’s family would like to thank all of his home caretakers, doctors and the exceptional St. Vincent nursing staff for helping him reach his lifelong goal of reaching 100 years of life and transitioning peacefully from this world.

 

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street Worcester, MA followed immediately by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial with military Honors will follow at Hope Cemetery.

 

Funeral Arrangements are directed by Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street.
