George W. Manos

October 12, 1936 — June 5, 2024

Worcester

George William Manos, 87, of Worcester, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024, in Manchester, CT, the home of his daughter Leandra, who lovingly cared for him the last 4 years of his life.

George was born on October 12, 1936 in Worcester, MA. He was a kind, strong willed and loving human being, whose family always came first. He was a devoted husband, a dedicated father, a caring brother, a supportive uncle, and a beloved grandfather "Papou." He enjoyed spending time with his family most of all, including making his grandchildren laugh, playing guessing games, analyzing numbers, and counting - anything.

George studied engineering at UMASS Amherst after graduating from Classical High School in Worcester. He then went on to proudly serve his country in the US Air Force from 1957 to 1960. He spent a year at Thule Air Force Base in Greenland, the origin of some of his favorite stories which he would enthusiastically regale his children and friends with.

He married the love of his life Arlene in 1973, and instantly became a loving father to her two daughters, Lana and Lisa. They started their family in Worcester, where their next two children William and Leandra were both born. Professionally he was primarily a computer engineer and manager, a novel career at the time, and ultimately became a 25 year veteran of the company initially called Software International, where he met some of his dearest friends. He later started his own company, SI Consulting Services. Around 1992 he made the decision to care for Arlene in her illness, at their home for many years, until her passing in 2005.

In 2022, George was honored to participate in a mini-documentary that highlighted the challenges facing caregivers of loved ones with dementia. He, along with his daughter Leandra, felt their story could help other families grappling with the same issues. He was proud of the film's many accolades from around the world, including Greece, where his parents had immigrated from.

He is survived by his children Lana M. Kaishian of Rocky Hill, CT and her husband Fr. Sahak Kaishian of Greenfield, WI, William G. Manos and his wife Irene of River Edge, NJ, Leandra E. Manos of Manchester, CT, his sisters Victoria Petrides of Half Moon Bay, CA, and Rene Manos of Bermuda Run, NC, a brother Paul Manos and his wife Elizabeth of Holden, MA, a sister-in-law Marion Bilzerian of Worcester, his grandchildren Jacob E. & Michael A. Kaishian of Wisconsin, and Avery & Zoe Manos of New Jersey, six nephews and one niece. George was preceded in death by his wife Arlene (Bilzerian) Manos, daughter Lisa McCoy, father Vasilios "Bill" Manos, mother Maria (Mitsis) Manos, and brothers-in-law Tom Manos and Edward Bilzerian.

Contributions in his memory can be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester, MA, or the Armenian Church of Our Savior in Worcester, MA.

The Callahan Faye Caswell Funeral Home in Worcester, MA, is assisting with the arrangements. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, June 11, at 10AM at St. Spyridon Cathedral, Worcester, followed by funeral services at 11AM and burial at Hope Cemetery to include military honors.
