WEST BOYLSTON-George W. Petty, 86, of West Boylston, died Tuesday, November 30 at UMASS Memorial Healthcare. His wife of 50 years, Lois C. (Sparks) Petty predeceased him in 2002. He leaves four children: William Petty and his wife Jean and their children and grandchildren of Dayton, ME; June Bilodeau and her husband David of West Boylston; Jack Petty and his wife Linda and their children, Kristen, T.J., Christie and Samantha of Barre, and Gayle Petty of Portland ME. He also leaves his a sister, Joan Walberg and many nephews and nieces. A daughter, Susan Catapano, two brothers, Tom and Jack Petty, four sisters, Mary Croteau, Pat Perreault, Shirley Davis and Kathleen Freeman predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Thomas F., Jr. and Mary (Robertson) Petty and graduated from North High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star during his service time, which included both the European and African Theaters. George was a Postal Clerk for the United States Postal Service in Worcester for many years, retiring in 1988. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 4th at FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting hours are Saturday from 8:30 AM until the time of the service in the funeral home.
