George W. Shanahan

WORCESTER- George W. Shanahan, Jr., 76, of Worcester, died Monday, Sept. 24th in St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Joan M. (Goodwin) Shanahan; a son, Michael J. Shanahan and his wife Susan of Princeton; two daughters, Debra E. Nelson and her husband Ronald of Marston Mills and Marie S. Connole and her husband Stephen of Worcester; two sisters, Elizabeth Zontini of Framingham and Florence Aubin of West Babylon, NY. He also leaves nine grandchildren who he adored and loved spending time with, Kaitlyn, Susan and Matthew Connole; Michael and Courtney Nelson, Liam, Collin, Clare and Quinn Shanahan and several nephews and nieces.

He was born in Worcester, son of George W. and Elizabeth F. (Gay) Shanahan. Mr. Shanahan was a Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War and had received many medals and recognitions during his service time. Mr. Shanahan worked at Foster Grant Corporation for thirty years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He was an avid sports and Red Sox fan but he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's many events.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 27th from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday, September 26th from 5:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George's memory to National Headquarters-Parkinson's Plaza, 135 Parkinson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10305.
