WORCESTER-George A. Skoog, 92, of the Lodge at Eddy Pond, Auburn and formerly of 8 Steele St died Friday, June 3 in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Belmont St.
Born in Sweden, son of Axel and Elin Skoog he came to this country at the age of ten. He graduated from local schools and went on to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WW II as a flight instructor. One of his pilots was the actor Jimmy Stewart. Upon discharge George was an instructor at the Grafton and Worcester airports.
George retired from Norton Company in 1974. While there he was foreman of the paint shop. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also had a great love for music and had sung with the Mendelssohn Singers, the Rodeheaver Chorus, the Luvaas Singers and for many years the Bethlehem Covenant Church Choir.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Church for 82 plus years, Morning Star Lodge of A.F. & A.M., the American Legion, Eight Points Sportsman's Club, Inc. and Alethia Grotto.
George is survived by many dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Bethlehem Covenant Church, 46 Greenwood St., Worcester on Sunday, June 12 at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Music Department of the Bethlehem Covenant Church or to a charity of your choice. LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St. is directing arrangements.
