George Vangel passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 17,2018 at the age of 101, with his wife, Elsie Vangel and immediate family members at his side.
He was born in Worcester in 1916, one of seven children to Victoria (Soter) and Ligor Vangel and married Elsie Theodore in 1946. George graduated from South High School in 1934 Becker College Class of 1937. He worked at National Standard and was a US Army Veteran serving in the Army Air Corp 9th Air Force Tactical Air Command. George attained the rank of Master Sergeant and was stationed Stateside at Ft. Devens, New York City, Miami Beach and in the European Theater in England, France, The Low Countries and Germany.
He was an avid golfer and a member for over 40 years at Wachusett Country Club, Holden Hills Country Club and Green Hill Golf Course. He was Proud member of the Becker College Athletic Hall of Fame Basketball and Baseball to which he was inducted in 1999 and St. Mary's Albanian Orthodox Church and the men's Guild, Sons of St.Mary's.
Mr. Vangel will be forever remembered as a loving husband,father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all.
He will be missed by his wife of 71 years, Elsie Vangel; his children, Kenneth and Cynthia; his grandchildren, Michael, Courtney and Alexandra; his great grandchildren, Tyler and Samantha; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mr. Vangel was predeceased by his son, Richard and six siblings, A. James, Nora, Jimmy, Katherine, Thomas and Dorothy.
A private funeral service was held at St. Mary's Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury St., Worcester. Burial was in Hope Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester.
