AUBURN-Geraldine Anita Baeder, 76, of Auburn, MA, died on Thursday, December 7 after battling a short illness. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family at home.
Gerry was born in New Haven, CT, on July 21, 1947, daughter of the late Arthur John Wallace, Jr., and Geraldine Anita (Coveyduck) Wallace. After moving with her family to Pittsfield, MA, she graduated from Pittsfield High School and earned a bachelor's degree from North Adams State college and a master’s degree in business from Nichols College in Dudley, MA.
After a career in banking, Gerry and closest friend Patricia Kelley channeled their love of reading into a used book and teacher supply store, The Book Vendor in Dracut, MA, which they owned and operated for nearly 20 years. After attempting retirement, she began working part time at the The Hanover Theatre & Conservatory for the Performing Arts, where she worked for 11 years, most recently as the full time Director of Finance. She loved attending classes and shows at the theater.
Gerry remained active until the very end, partaking in many different hobbies, including improv, dance, and yoga classes, traveling, and refusing to retire. Gerry will always be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her sassiness and quick wit, and her hardworking and kind nature. The oldest of six siblings, she was the caretaker of the family. Anyone who knew Gerry recognized that one of her greatest prides and joys in life was helping to care for her granddaughter, Colie. Beloved by her coworkers, friends, and family, Gerry was an exceptional parent, grandparent, sibling and friend.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of thirty years, Scott Baeder; and her children Sandy (Wood) Lavallee of Auburn, MA, James Wood and wife Krista of Scio, OR, and Stacey (Hoover) Sheehan and husband Christopher of Montpelier, VT. She leaves eight grandchildren, Jordan, Nicole, and Tyler Lavallee; Amanda, Sydney, and Jess Wood; Hailey and Riley Sheehan; and two great grandchildren, Ira and Oberon Abrao. She is also survived by her siblings Joan Toomey, Sharon Shields and husband Leo, David Wallace and wife Jane, James Wallace and wife Sheila, and sister-in-law Robin Wallace, all of Pittsfield, MA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur J. Wallace, III.
