Gilberto "Gilly" Lopez, 52, of Quinebaug, CT formerly of Worcester, MA passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, Jan. 17, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves his loving wife of 25 years, Rose M. (Moreau) Lopez, three daughters, Yvonne Rosario and Nicole Lopez both of Worcester; and Thelma Lopez of Bronx, NY; Three sons, Gilbert A. Lopez, Jose Lopez and Gilbert Lopez all of Worcester; his father, Merido Lopez of Marion, AL; his mother, Ramona Rosario of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico; three sisters, Evelyn Lopez of Marion, AL; Blanca Lopez of Carolina, Puerto Rico and Wanda Santiago of Fajardo, Puerto Rico; two brothers, Angelo Colon of Fitchburg, MA and Tommy Rodriguez of Worcester; 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Carey, Puerto Rico and lived in Worcester for many years before moving to Quinebaug, CT in 1994.
Gilly was the Plant Manager for 24 years for the former Come Play Products in Worcester until it closed in 2000. As a man of kindness and fairness Gilly never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He was loved by those who worked with him and for him and was respected by all who knew him, and will be remembered always.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Church in Quinebaug and a former member of St. Peter's Church in Worcester. He loved working in his yard, spending time on his boat, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special THANK YOU to Dr. David Jackman, Margaret McMullen, Kitty, and all of the staff on Dana 10 and 11 at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 21, at CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester with a Mass at 10 AM in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery immediately following the Mass. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
