Gladys M. (Carlson) Peterson, 83, Of 30 Julio Dr. formerly of Worcester and Bass River, died Thursday, March 4, in UMASS Memorial Medical Center.
Her husband, Howard W. Peterson Sr. died in 2002. She leaves three sons, Howard W. Peterson Jr. of Worcester, Lorance C. Peterson of Shrewsbury and Glen A. Peterson of Milford and three daughters, Woodlyn A. Wells of Chatsworth, CA., Janice G. Smith of Webster and Karen P. Binder of Shrewsbury; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Charles G. and Anna C. (Engquist) Carlson.
Mrs. Peterson and her husband Howard W. Peterson Sr. founded Peterson Oil Co. She graduated from Classical High School and Becker Junior College. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, the L C W of the Church; Mr. & Mrs. Club and the Daughters of Emanuel. She was the President of the Worcester Public Schools Mother's Clubs. Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Dinettes Club and the Queens, a 50year member of the Bridge Club. She spent 40 years summering on Cape Cod and enjoyed painting and traveling and was active in Boys and Girls Scouts of America.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, March 9, at 11 a.m. in the Emanuel Lutheran Church 200 Greenwood St. Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Project Help c/o Emanuel Lutheran Church 200 Greenwood St. 01607.
