SHREWSBURY-Gool Mehta, 85, passed away in Worcester, MA on August 19, 2026 surrounded by family and love. She was born in Karachi, pre-partition, India. Daughter of Banoo & Shavak Khambatta. Gool matriculated/graduated from Mama Parsi Girls School in Karachi, Pakistan, at the age of fifteen. Within two months of graduating, American Field Service (AFS) student exchange program selected her to spend a year in the United States with an American family, where she attended 12th grade at El Segundo High School in El Segundo, California.
Upon returning to Karachi, she joined the College of Home Economics and received her bachelor’s degree and later became a teaching assistant at the same college. Gool also taught at an International School for many years.
Gool married her husband, Shahrokh (Sam) Mehta, in December of 1964. They moved to Syracuse in 1980. Gool spent the next 45 years raising their two children and starting a new career in retail, working for Chappell’s, Bon-Ton, Kaufman’s, and Macy’s in Shoppingtown Mall in DeWitt, NY. Gool moved to Shrewsbury, MA with her husband in July 2025 to be close to their daughter’s family and grandchildren.
Those who came to know Gool will attest that she was a quiet, soft-spoken, and gentle human being who saw good in every person she met. Caring for and supporting for her family was an important part of her life. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, listening to music, playing bridge and other games/puzzles.
Gool leaves behind her devoted husband of 61 years, son Kershaw Mehta and his wife Janice Peterson of Poughkeepsie, NY, and daughter Parastu Dubash and her husband Jamshed Dubash of Shrewsbury, MA, and two grandchildren, Zarius and Zinara Dubash.
