Gordon D. Cleary Sr. 88, formerly of Central St. died Friday (Feb.7) at the St. Mary's Healthcare Center in Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Dolores M. (Deslauriers) Cleary, a son, Gordon D. Cleary Jr. of Worcester, a daughter, Denise M. Norberg of Auburn, two brothers, Thomas Cleary and Albert Cleary both of Worcester, three sisters, Alice Metros of Leominster, Mary Keeney of Harwich and Helen Casavant of Worcester, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and several nephews and nieces. Four Sisters, Joan Lucas, Elizabeth Lund, Bridget Whalen and Mildred Cleary all predeceased him. He was born in North Sydeny, Nova Scotia, son of Thomas and Mary (McGrath) Cleary. He graduated from Saint Peter's High School and was a member of the Varsity Football Team. He has lived in West Boylston for many years, prior to that he lived in Worcester and Auburn for several years.

He was a Navy Veteran of WW II.

He worked as a Sales Manager for 37 years for J.J. Nissen Company retiring in 1976.

He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, the Teamsters Union, Veterans of Foreign War Post %236907, past commander of the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post %23204 and a former member of the Main South American Legion Post %23341.

A Funeral will be held Monday (Feb.10) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 1 West Boylston St. (www.faybrothers.com) with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church 111 Worcester St. Burial will be in the Spring in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Calling Hours are Sunday (Feb.9) from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
