Harold L. Harris, III

WORCESTER-Harold L. Harris, 83, passed away Wednesday, September 2 in the St. Francis Nursing Center after years of declining health.

He leaves his wife of 14 years, Barbara C. (Anderson) Harris; two sons, Harold L. Harris, IV of Boston and Marc A. Harris and his wife, Marilena of Huntsville, AL; two grandchildren, Sylvia (Rakim) and Tynisha (Dawayne) and; five great-grandchildren, three siblings, Walter Johnson of Framingham, Roberta Johnson of Franklin and Carrie Johnson of Florida and his best friends, Peter and Denise Adams. His first wife of 47 years, Doris L. Harris passed away in 2009. He was born in Worcester, son of Muriel (Clements) Johnson and Harold L. Harris, Jr. and raised by his father and stepmother, Nellie B. Harris. Harold graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School and proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force for six years.

Harold was a union carpenter and worked at UMASS Medical Center, for many years before retiring. He was a former member of All Saints Church and in his youth, active in the church basketball program. He loved playing cards and listening to music with family and friends and was a New England Patriots and Boston Celtics fan. He also loved spending time on Cape Cod.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at UMASS Medical Center for all their compassionate care.

A Visiting Hour will be held Thursday, September 10 from 10-11am with a Funeral Service at 11am in Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Veterans Inc of Worcester at www.veteransinc.org
