WORCESTER- Harry H. Dapper, Jr. 86, of Worcester passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in UMASS Memorial Hospital after battling illness surrounded by his loving family.

His wife, Helen (Badgio) Dapper passed away in 1996. He leaves his daughter, Diane and her husband, Francis Mangiacotti, Jr. and their daughter, Christy with whom he resided with. He also leaves his son Joseph Dapper and his wife, Susan Russo and their daughters, Hannah and Ella; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, among them Betty Dougherty of Moravia, NY.

Harry was born in Worcester, son of Harry H. and Ann V. (Dulligan) Dapper. He graduated from Classical High School in Worcester.

Harry was a tobacco and candy salesman for 45 years, working for H.E. Shaw, General Wholesale, Polep Brothers, Western Mass Candy & Tobacco, and Auburn Merchandise Distributors before retiring in 1994.

Harry had many interests. He was a passionate self-taught U.S. Civil War historian, one of the foremost authorities on all things Civil War in New England, a long-time member and past-president of the Civil War Roundtable of Central Massachusetts, and a featured speaker around New England at numerous Civil War historian conferences. Harry traveled by car coast to coast twice finding history, serenity and a good waterfall along the way. He was a sports fan who enjoyed golf, and was an avid horse racing fan.

Harry lived a faith filled life. He was a devoted parishioner of St. George's Catholic Church in Worcester where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and delivered communion to the sick.

Harry was a loving, caring and thoughtful husband, father, and grandfather. Always finding the humor in things, laughter was an integral part of his being, as was his charm. He was a friend to all, and always captivated family & friends with his story telling.

Calling hours will be held Thursday May 17th from 6pm-8pm at Callahan Fay & Caswell Funeral Home at 61 Myrtle St. in Worcester. On Friday May 18th a funeral mass will be held at 11:00am in Saint George's Church at 40 Brattle St. in Worcester. Immediately following the mass burial will be held at Rural Cemetery at 180 Grove St. in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint George's Church.
