Worcester-Hector M. Rivera, 61, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at UMASS University Campus.
He was born January 3, 1960 a son to Victor M. Rivera and Virginia Diaz. Hector was born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico and later moved to Worcester where he, most recently, worked as a chef at The Smokestack BBQ Restaurant.
Hector was an active musician who enjoyed playing the conga drums. He played for a well-known singer when he resided in Puerto Rico. Mr. Rivera also enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics, boxing and his favorite, the Boston Red Sox. In his free time, Hector loved tinkering with auto mechanics and fishing in Cape Cod with family and friends. One would often find Hector salsa dancing with his favorite partner, his wife Basilisa, on the dance floor.
Mr. Rivera was a kind, loving and happy man that had a contagious smile. He leaves behind many that will miss him dearly including his wife of thirty years, Basilisa Almodovar, his children; a daughter from his first relationship, Virginia Rivera, two children from Basilisa Almodovar his present wife, Hector M. and Yomaris Rivera from Worcester, a grandson, Angel Berry, five brothers who live in Puerto Rico; Victor, Ruben, Rafael, Nelson, Emanuel, one sister, Norma, who lives in Maryland, and an Aunt and Uncle who live in Lowell, Ma. He also raised three children from his wife, a granddaughter, Yasmaris Dominguez, and niece, Xiana Gonzalez. Hector was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters; Victor M., Alias, Chirry, Elba and Liany.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Hector's life on Thursday, January 14, 2021 with calling hours from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the Callahan, Fay and Caswell Life Celebration Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Friday, January 15, 2021 at 10:00am followed by burial at Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
