Helen A. (Jakubowski) Goodness, 85, of 40 Metcalf St. died Saturday, May 22 in the Jewish Healthcare Center.
Her husband, B. George Goodness died on Oct. 12, 1992. She leaves 2 sons, Paul R. and Brian G. Goodness both of Shrewsbury; a sister, Irene J. O'Donoghue of Aurora, CO; 2 brothers, Edmund J. Jason of Burlington, WA and Paul Jay of Sedro Wooley, WA; four grandchildren, Julie, Gregory, Bradford and Aynsley Goodness all of Shrewsbury and two great grandchildren, Javin and Lillian Goodness. A son, Robert J. Goodness died in 1992. A brother, Anthony J. Jakubowski and a sister, Wanda Hardaker predeceased her.She was born in Worcester daughter of Waleryan and Bronislawa (Wroblewski-Charnecki) Jakubowski. She graduated from Northboro High School in 1937 and Madame French's Millinery Academe of Boston in 1939.
On Dec. 8, 1942 she started 3 years of work at the Watertown Arsenal during WW II. Later she worked for a short time at Reid & Prentice in Worcester.After living in Roslindale and Needham for several years she moved to Worcester in 1945 and started a successful real estate brokerage business Goodness and Goodness Co., Realtors which specialized in quality homes and estates in Worcester and surrounding towns. The company's working philosophy was "Service as good as the name." She completed many professional courses at Northeastern University and Harvard University where she completed a professional real estate appraisal course with the second highest grade in the class. She was the first woman to join the Worcester Real Estate Board. She earned the Massachusetts Association of Realtors' GRI designation.
