WORCESTER-Helen P. (Brosnahan) Mahoney, of 102 Greenwich Court, Worcester, formerly of 11 Oberlin Street, died on Monday, October 8, at Autumn Village Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She leaves her husband of sixty-one years, Francis J. Mahoney; a daughter Mary P. Mahoney of Worcester; a daughter Helen "Ellie" A. Brunelle and her husband Jacques A. of Franklin; and a daughter Catherine M. Kabala and her husband Stanley J. of Dudley. She also leaves four grandchildren: John A. Brunelle of Boston, Mary Helen Brunelle of Worcester, James S. Kabala of Providence, and Daniel J. Kabala of Brighton. She also leaves, Michael N. Cariglia a longtime family friend of Worcester. She also leaves a nephew Paul Brosnahan and his wife Margaret of Framingham and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mrs. Mahoney was predeceased by a son David F., who died in infancy, and by her four sisters and four brothers: Mary Small of Wilkonsonville; Agnes McManus, Catherine Brosnahan, and Dorothy Brosnahan, all of Worcester; Thomas Brosnahan of Brooklyn, New York; William Brosnahan, Joseph Brosnahan and Gerald Brosnahan, all of Worcester.
Mrs. Mahoney was born in Worcester, the daughter of Michael and Nora (Keane) Brosnahan. She graduated from the former Commerce High School. She worked at the Billings Square branch of the Worcester Public Library and later at the main library on Elm Street. She also worked as a cost estimator at Loring Coes Knife Company. Mrs. Mahoney was a member of St. Peter's Parish. She was a member of the Guild of Our Lady Queen of Peace and a Benedictine Oblate. She watched the Mass daily on television. One of her favorite activities was knitting, and she was known for her beautiful afghans.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 10, at 10 :00 AM in St. Peter's Church 929 Main Street. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4:30 to 6:30 PM on Tuesday, October 9, and from 9:00 to 9:30 AM on Wednesday at Callahan and Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street.
