PALESTINE, IL/WORCESTER-Helen E. (Werme) Phillips, 85, of 211 S. Wilson St., Palestine, IL formerly of 36 Steele St. died March 22 in Chicago.
Her husband of 58 years, John W. Phillips died in 2002. She leaves a son, Jonathan P. Phillips of Palestine, IL; a brother, Carl P. Werme of Holden; a granddaughter, Amy J. Phillips of Palestine, IL and several nieces and nephews.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Carl E. and M. Edna (Pierce) Werme and graduated from South High School in 1939 and Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. Helen worked for Edward Reardon, M.D. for 12 years retiring in 1980. Previously, she worked as the supervisor in the outpatient department at Worcester City Hospital. She was a member of the Bethlehem Covenant Church and the Worcester City Hospital Alumni Association.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 21 at 4:00 PM at Bethlehem Covenant Church, 46 Greenwood St. A private graveside service will be held at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
