Worcester - Henry J. "Red" Rafferty, 76, of Harley Drive, died Saturday, September 4th after an illness.
He leaves his children, Sean P. Rafferty, Noreen M. Erickson, Ellen C. Harrity, Elizabeth R. O'Rourke and Megan A. Rafferty, all of Worcester; his sister, Sarah J. "Sally" Karmazin and her husband, John of Downers Grove, Illnois; seven grandchildren; nieces & nephews; grand nieces & grand nephews. He was born in Worcester son of the late Henry J. and Catherine T. (Malloy) Rafferty, Sr. His brother, Paul X. Rafferty predeceased him. He graduated from Commerce High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Corrections from UMASS - Amherst in 1976. He served in the Marines in both World War II and the Korean Conflict.
"Red" was Corrections Officer for the Worcester County Sherriff's Department for over 35 years, retiring as captain in 1992.
He was member of Saint John's Church, Knights of Columbus Adelphi Council %234181, Worcester Lodge of the Elks, American Legion %23435 Vernon Hill Post, Southworks VFW Post and the China Marines Association.
The Funeral will be held Wednesday, September 8th from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 WEST BOYLSTON STREET, WEST BOYLSTON with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM in The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, 23 Fales Street, Worcester. Interment, with Military Honors, will be in Saint John's Cemetery.
Visiting hours are 4:00 - 8:00PM Tuesday, September 7th at the funeral home.
