GLEN MILLS, PA-Hugh Thompson, age 86, of Glen Mills, PA passed away on December 10th, 2024 at Rose Court in Maris Grove. He was born to Captain Robert Thompson (Irish Army) and Kathleen (nee Kelly) Thompson in The Curragh Camp, County Kildare, Ireland. Hugh came to New York City in 1957. He became a naturalized citizen a few years later in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Hugh graduated from Cooper Union School of Engineering in New York City in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in engineering. He continued his education at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA and graduated with his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering 1972. He also studied Business Administration at Clark University in Worcester. Hugh worked as for E.I. DuPont for 34 years as a mechanical engineer. He specifically worked in quality control and was responsible for the implementation of Six Sigma. While working for E.I. DuPont, he worked for plants in Massachusetts, New York, Missouri, and Pennsylvania, finally retiring from Marshall Lab in Philadelphia. After retiring, Hugh consulted for E.I. DuPont, traveling to various plants to implement Six Sigma. He also worked as a professor at the University of Delaware, teaching statistics. Hugh was a devoted member of St. Cornelius Catholic Church. Hugh was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. In his earlier years, he enjoyed golfing and traveling, especially to visit Ireland. In addition to his parents, Hugh is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Sean, and Lawrence Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (nee Farrell) Thompson, daughter, Kathleen (Thomas) Blair, and son, Robert Thompson, as well as many nieces and nephews across the U.S. and Ireland. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 13th at Maris Grove Chapel, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA from 10:00-10:45AM followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 11:00AM. Burial will be Monday, December 16th at 11:30am in Saint John's Cemetery, Section Pieta, Worcester, MA.
