Hugh Wilson Hammond 90, of 20 Crestwood Rd. died Monday, Oct. 11, at home.
He leaves his loving sister, Marion Hammond of Leicester; a nephew, Richard Odlum of Leicester; four grand nephews, Michael DiStefano Jr. of Leicester; Richard DiStefano and his wife Heather of Worcester, Richard F. Miller of Leicester , Scott J. Miller of Charlton and a great-grand nephew Alex DiStefano of Worcester. He was born in Worcester, son of Hugh and Bridget (Scanlon) Hammond and graduated from St. Stephen's High School and Becker Junior College. He was a member of America's greatest generation, serving in the U.S. Army anti aircraft division during WW II.
Wilson was employed at the Railway Express Agency and then worked for the Wyman Gordon Company, retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Pius X Church.Wilson spent his retirement working in his yard and many days in the wood with his dogs. He was a devout family man who had many friends. He enjoyed boxing and being with his family.
A Funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 15, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 9 Hammond St., Worcester with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 1154 Main St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling Hours are Thursday, Oct. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. (faybrothers.com)
