WORCESTER-Irene C. (Fitman) DeSalvio, 86, passed away Sunday, August 16th at Durgin Pines Nursing Home in Kittery, ME. She leaves her son, Donald and his wife Jodi Kramer of Kennebunkport, ME; two grandchildren, Derek and Sarah DeSalvio of Dublin, OH and many nieces and nephews. Three sisters and two brothers predeceased her, Sr. Mary Catherine LaBoure, Barbara DesChanes, Sonny Fitman, Donald Fitman and Joyce Acker.
Irene was born in Worcester the daughter of Harold J. and Irene C. (Hines) Fitman. She graduated from Commerce High School. Irene worked as a packer of finished goods at Parker Metal in Worcester for 20 years retiring in 1989. Irene enjoyed singing in the choir at Atria, country music, baking, scratch tickets and loving her grandchildren. Irene was a loving and caring Mother, Grandmother and friend. She always put others above herself and was always there to help anyone when they were in need.
A visitation for Irene will be held on Saturday, August 29th from 8:30 to 9:30 am at CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. followed by a Mass at 10:00 am at St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Irene to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or via www.jimmyfund.org/gift.
