WORCESTER- Irene (Kontulis) Walsh, 79, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital.
She was born in Worcester on June 27, 1942 daughter of Greek immigrants, Alexandra Gogonas and George Kontulis. Irene was raised in Worcester and attended local schools before settling down and starting her family. For 17 years, Irene was employed in the Worcester Public School System in the cafeteria department.
Irene was a longtime member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She enjoyed trying her luck on The Numbers game and socializing with her friends at various establishments in the city. In the summers, many memories were made at Nantasket Beach. She loved to crochet special gifts for her family and friends and especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren, sharing many stories and lessons with them from her life.
She leaves behind her children, David White and his wife, Christine, Michael White and his wife, Marie, all of Brookfield, Elaine Bell of Jacksonville, FL., Kris Lynch of Gardner, Tina Servideo and her husband, Gary of Barre, Kelly Sclamo and her husband, Marc of Auburn, Patricia Harnois and her husband, Ed Jr., of Barre, Mary E. Kasputis of Worcester and her beloved youngest child, Angela M. Walsh of Worcester; her longtime companion, John K. "Buzzy" White of Worcester; Twenty grandchildren, two of which were her caregivers, Amaya and Anasia Williams; Sixteen great grandchildren, a sister, Martha Legor of Worcester; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, David I. Walsh, Jr. who died in 1984 and her brother, Peter Kontulis.
Family and friends will celebrate Irene's life with visiting hours on Thursday, February 10th from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, February 11th at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St., Worcester.
