Irving W. Bergstrom

SHREWSBURY
Irving W. Bergstrom, 86, formerly of Melody Ln. died Wed., Feb. 20 in Shrewsbury Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late E. Viola (Borg) Bergstrom who died in 2000. He is survived by four daughters, Christine Leach and her husband Robert of Shrewsbury, Beverly Robbins and her husband A. James "Jim" of Okeechobee, FL, Dr. Carole Johnson and her husband Rev. Bruce of Northbridge, and Deborah Bergstrom and her companion James Harrold of Shrewsbury; two sons, Stephen Bergstrom and his wife Patricia of Marlboro and Mark Bergstrom and his wife Beverly Johnson of Oxford; a brother, Merrill Bergstrom and his wife Marilyn of Northboro; twelve grandchildren, Jeremy Leach of Worcester, Alana Peppersack of Shrewsbury, Jessica Gibson of Holyoke, Jacob Leach of Shrewsbury, Craig and Meghan Bergstrom of Marlboro, Casey and Sidney Johnson of Northbridge, Matthew Bergstrom of Worcester, Krystal Bergstrom of Oxford, Thomas Robbins of N. Brookfield and Timothy Robbins of E. Brookfield; four great grandchildren, Caleb Bergstrom of Worcester, Brittany and Alex Robbins of N. Brookfield and Cody Hall of W. Sturbridge. He was born in Worcester, son of A. Wilfred and Ureka M. (Thyden) Bergstrom and graduated from North High School in 1940. He was also a student of the Lincoln Institute of Factory Executive Training.
Irving retired from Morgan Construction Company after 40 years. He supervised the erection of steel and non-ferrous rolling mill plants in England, Wales, Norway, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and sixteen states in the United States, including the erection of the U.S. Steel now rod mill when the company moved from Worcester to Fairless, PA. He was a hobbyist beekeeper, and enjoyed camping, fishing, sailing, gardening, and hunting. He was an excellent chess player. Mr. Bergstrom was a voracious reader and thought it relaxing to sit and read the Encyclopedia Britannica, along with books on most any subject, especially history. He was a member, former church moderator and diaconate chairman at Bethlehem Covenant Church in Worcester and a member for 65 years of Matthew John Whittall Masonic Lodge in Shrewsbury.
The Funeral Service will be held, Mon., Feb. 25, at 11 AM in Bethlehem Covenant Church, 46 Greenwood St., Worcester. Burial will be private. Visiting Hours are Sun., Feb. 24. From 3 to 6 PM at Lindquist Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at Bethlehem Covenant Church, 46 Greenwood St. Worcester, 01607 or the Building Fund at Community Covenant Church, 2 W.
