James G. Altobelli, 78, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 2, 2026. He was predeceased by his wife, Sheila I. (Kennedy) Altobelli in May of 2025.

James was born on March 28, 1947, in Leominster, Massachusetts, to the late Rita (Stacy) Altobelli and Sylvester Altobelli. He was married to the love of his life, Shelia I. (Kennedy) Altobelli. James often affectionately referred to her as “the lady by the dumpster,” a cherished inside joke recalling how they first met when Shelia was taking out the trash—a story he loved to tell and one that perfectly captured his humor and devotion.  After graduating from high school, he entered into the Airforce than onto Assumption College earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology.  James worked for many years at Rubin's clothing store and Home Depot prior to retiring. Known for his hands-on nature, he loved fixing things and would always try to repair something himself before calling a professional. He enjoyed building, tinkering around the house and gardening. James was an extremely hard worker, working multiple jobs at once to support his family.  Above all else, James loved his family. His greatest joy came from being surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored deeply and spoke of often.

James leaves behind many that will miss him dearly including his children, Kimberly Altobelli of Worcester, MA and Ross Altobelli and his wife, Melissa, of Sache, TX; five grandchildren, Kaitlin, Briana, Sawyer, Hope, and Brooke; two great grandchildren, Zayden and Colin; his brother, Mark Altobelli and his wife, Leslie, of New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, his son, John Altobelli and his parents.

Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of James’ life with calling hours Sunday, January 11th, 2026, from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. A funeral service will begin at 12:00pm in the funeral home. Burial will be private for the family.

James will be remembered for his loving heart, steady presence, and unwavering dedication to his family. His memory will live on in the stories he told, the things he fixed, and the love he gave so freely.
