James F. Dowd, 72, of Holden passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 8, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Theresa M. (Gaudette ) Dowd; two children; Julie A. Keller and her husband, David of Holden and Patrick J. Dowd and his wife, Marny of Worcester; a brother, Philip Dowd and his wife, Marie of Worcester; three grandchildren, Matthew Dowd, Kaitlyn and Meighan Keller and nieces and nephews. Two brothers, William and Bryan Dowd predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester, son of Michael and Esther (O'Brien) Dowd and graduated from Commerce High School and attended Worcester State College. He was a US Coast Guard Veteran of the Vietnam Era.

Jim worked as a central office technician for Verizon Telephone for many years, before retiring. He was a member of the Main South American Legion Post %23341, the Telephone Pioneers of America, Saint Peter's Church and served as the sexton for the last 11 years at Saint Francis Episcopal Church in Holden. Jim loved spending time with his family, vacationing with his wife and golfing with all his friends. He will be fondly missed by his grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as Bumpy.

The Funeral will be held Thursday, November 13 from Callahan~Fay and Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Peter's Church, 931 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. Visiting Hours are Wednesday, November 12 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Peter's Church, 929 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01610.
