AUBURN, MA- James F. "Jocko" Doyle, 62, of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 25, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife of 38 years, Patricia Ann (McConville) Doyle; two sons, James M. Doyle and his wife Anna of Auburn and Christopher J. Doyle and his wife April of Ashland; his mother, Catherine (Fitzpatrick) Doyle of Worcester. He also leaves his two grandchildren whom he absolutely adored, Isabella and Liam, a brother, Edward Doyle of Worcester and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his father Edward J. Doyle.
He was born in Worcester, graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School and Worcester Industrial Technical Institute. He also attended Worcester Jr. College. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Jocko worked as a licensed electrician at the College of the Holy Cross for 38 years, retiring in December, 2009. During his time at the College, he earned the Walter McCann Award in 1995 and the Claire B. Burns Award in 2001 for his leadership, work ethic and dedicated service. Jocko was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was a coach for the Maranville Little League for many years, president of Herbie's golf league and a founding member of the Catholic Conference at Pakachoag Golf Course. He was an avid fan of all the Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox. Jocko loved spending time with his family at those games and also annual summer vacations at Lake Winnipesauke.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 29 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge St. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday, April 28 from 5-8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jocko's memory to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 596 Cambridge St., Worcester, MA 01610.
