James Franklin Hughes was born on December 5, 1916 in Coldwater, Kentucky to Thomas and Maude Lockhart Hughes. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for two tours in World War II and one tour in Korea. After his time in Korea, he enlisted in the Navy Reserves. James spent two years in Civil Conservation Care, where he nurtured his lifelong passion for the outdoors. He loved to be out in the sun gardening. He also enjoyed reading.
James passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018, in Katy, at the age of 101.
He is survived by his sons, Richard Hughes and his wife Patsy, and Thomas Hughes and his wife Gina; three granddaughters, Debbie Davenport and her husband Craig, Kimberly Levinson and her husband Mark, and Stacey Jasinski and her husband Tim; three step grandsons, Philip Brinson and his wife Laura; John Brinson and his wife Carol, and Justin Brinson and his wife April; five great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; brother, Thomas Hughes, Jr. and his wife Fay; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie Hughes; and nine siblings.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Hope Cemetery in Worcester, Massachusetts.
