WORCESTER-James J. Nichols, 84 died Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at UMass Medical Center.
He was born in Worcester, son of Charles H. and Alice (Miller) Nichols and then proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. Jim worked many years as a machinist for the George Meyers Company until its closure, and then as maintenance supervisor at the Lutheran Home of Worcester.
James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce H. (Nelson) Nichols and two sons, Donald R. Nichols, Sr. and his wife Paula of Worcester and Joseph G. Nichols and his wife Michelle of Sturbridge: seven grandchildren, Donald Nichols, Jr. and his wife April, Ami Nichols, Paul Nichols and his wife Lauren, Michael Bartkiewicz, Paul Green, Ashley Bastien and her husband Mark and Savannah Nichols. He also leaves seven great grandchildren, Alex, Thomas, Brody, Thomas, Grayson, Liam and Eilianna, and his sister, Harriet Consiglio of W. Dennis.
James was predeceased by his brother Richard W. Nichols and three sisters, Barbara A. Weeks, Alice Irene St. Marie, and Joyce Dumont.
James was a longtime and active member of St. Catherine of Sweden Church. He was also very active in the Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts when his sons were young. He enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and would always be found with a scratch ticket, or two, in his hand.
Visiting Hours will be held Monday, May 9th from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM at Callahan, Fay and Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street immediately followed by a service at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
