WORCESTER – Janet Barlee, 70, died peacefully on April 10, 2020 at her residence. She was born in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, Liberia, a daughter of the late Jackson and Emily Barlee.
Janet relocated to Worcester in 2004 and settled here with her granddaughter, Jessica from Ivory Coast through the US Refugee Resettlement Program. Prior to the Liberian Civil War in the late 1980s, Janet worked as the Guest House Manager at the European Economic Community (EEC), now, European Commission for over 2 decades in Zwedru, Liberia.
During the chaos of the Liberian Civil Wars, Janet was separated from her children who she gradually connected with decades later. Her ultimate desire was to be united with all her children in the United States.
In Worcester, for 8 years, Janet worked at the Salvation Army Family Store and Donation Center in Worcester until 2013, forging many friendships while there. She loved to cook for her family, dancing along with a wonderful tune, walking, and sewing.
She will be forever missed and loved by her five loving children, Helena Macedo, Huda Macedo, Anthony Macedo Barlee, Jenkins Macedo, and Dehcontee Macedo; her grandchildren, Karena Quattara, Daouda Abdul Wahid Sumanu, Aaron E.S. Montcho, Tailey Barlee, Aaron A. Macedo, Andrew R. Macedo, Ava J. Macedo and Jessica Derrick; her great grandson, Nathan Derrick; her siblings, Beatrice and Susannah Barlee. Janet joins her siblings, Moses, Emmanuel, Jersey, and Nancy Barlee along with her Father and Mother Jackson, and Emily Barlee. Janet will be remembered for her kindness, loving and caring spirit, her jokes, and her food.
Her children would also like to acknowledge the special family friendships with Carlos Macedo & Family, the Collins Family, the Wleh Family, the Tailey Family, the Braisco Family, the Sobah Family, the Dessuah Family, the Adjagbe Family, the Weeks Family, the Breeze Family, Everlyn Toe, Leona Mormeh, Staff & Members of the Worcester Community Senior Center, Victoria Deranomy, the Liberian Association of Worcester County, Kaska Yarwo, and Dr. Richard & Dr. Nancy Schmitt.
