Janet M. Reidy, 84, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2019 at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Cambridge, after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Francis D. Reidy who passed away in 2014.
Prior to enjoying her retirement, Janet was a special education teacher in the Worcester Public School system, assisting many children to learn how to read for the first time. Earning her masters degree while raising her sons was an accomplishment she was especially proud of. Janet "loved life", was an avid traveler and enjoyed visiting destinations around the globe, never missing the opportunity to "get on the bus". She was an avid fan of her beloved New England Patriots, Tennis, and watching the NFL network – but above all she cherished time spent with her family and friends.
She leaves behind her sons, Sean M. Reidy and his wife, Michelle of Auburn and Dennis F. Reidy and his wife, Linda of Spencer; daughter-in-law, Barbara Reidy of Ware; nine grandchildren, Briana, Meghan, Dennis, Jr., Sarah, Katherine, Colleen, Stephen Jr., Timothy Jr., and Taryn; several great grandchildren whom she cherished; two sister-in-laws, Terry Reidy, Mary Demaio, and many dear friends, including her adored Rachel.
Besides her husband and parents, Janet is predeceased by three sons, Stephen D., Timothy D., and Paul W. Reidy.
The Reidy family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff that cared for Janet at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Friday, July 12th from 4:00- 7:00pm at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 13th at 11:00am at Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 596 Cambridge St., Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in Janet's honor to Abby's House 52 High Street Worcester, MA 01609 (abbyshouse.org) or the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
