HOLDEN-Jean V. (Mulley) Bessant, 86, died Thursday, February 25 at Quaboag on the Common Nursing Home in West Brookfield. Her husband of 52 years, Major William A. Bessant of the Salvation Army died in September, 1995. She leaves a son, John Bessant and his wife Linda of West Brookfield; a daughter Carolyn Usher and her husband Gerry of Ontario, Canada; four granddaughters, Holli, Ashley, Wendi and Jill; and three great grandchildren, Morgan, Lucy and Jack. She was predeceased by her daughter Margaret Mantor in 1990 and a brother Jack Mulley.

She was born in Brantford Ontario, Canada the daughter of Cyril and Hilda (Ballinger) Mulley and moved to the United States in 1959. Jean was a Major in the Salvation Army for forty years, retiring in 1988. She was also very active in the Women's Auxiliary during that time.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 28 from 2-4 PM in CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 1 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. A private burial will be held in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the Salvation Army, DHQ, 25 Shawmut Road, Canton, MA 02021 or to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Avenue, Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02062-5040, in memory of her daughter Margaret Mantor.
