Jean F. Merzigian, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20 at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Worcester on April 13, 1932 daughter of the late Francis and Angelina (Petrone) Malone. Jean was the first student to graduate from Venerini Academy and later attended Worcester State Teachers College. She worked as a Legal Secretary before working as a substitute teacher in the Worcester Public School System. She met and married John Merzigian with whom she recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Jean and John lived many years on Cape Cod and loved wintering in Florida.
Jean was a devoted member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour. A devout and hospitable woman, Jean loved to cook, attend musicals and listening to music. Her true devotion was to her family.
She leaves her loving husband, John Merzigian; three sons, John and his wife Marcy of California, Michael and his wife Carmen, Francis; two daughters, Martha Layte and her husband Richard of Paxton, JoAnn Sivazlian and her husband Mark of Worcester; two sisters, Patricia Webber and her husband Bruce and Kathy Eager and her companion Dave Matis; eight Grandchildren, James, Rebecca, Bradford, Andrew, Emily, Jennifer, Matthew and Alexandra; six cherished Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Francis Malone.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 25th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm with a Dehngark service to take place at 6:30pm at the CALLAHAN FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 26th at 11:00am at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester 01609. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour in her memory.
