Jerry Chakarian, 90, died peacefully on Good Friday, April 2nd, 2021 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, MA. He was surrounded by his loving family before his passing. Jerry was the son of Krikor Chakarian, who came to the US, having escaped the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and Arousiag (Mouradkanian) Chakarian. He is predeceased by his oldest sister Dorothy Asadoorian and brother-in-law Paul Asadoorian. He leaves behind his sister Betty and brother-in-law Harry Dostourian, his nephew Michael Asadoorian, his nieces Melanie Mercurio and her husband David, Anna Dostourian, Rose Gervais and her husband Stephen and son Phillip, Jaclyn Dostourian, and his great nieces and nephews and their families.
Jerry was born in Worcester, MA, January 15, 1931 and lived there until 1973, when he moved to West Boylston, to live with his sister Betty, brother-in-law Harry, father Krikor and nieces Anna, Rose and Jackie, with other family members nearby.
Jerry was a very conscientious and hard worker at home and at work. During his younger years, he worked at Putnam & Thurston's Restaurant and later at the Worcester County Hospital, where he retired.
Jerry's energy and enthusiasm and his love of life and people was infectious, everywhere he went. He enjoyed activities that brought him close to his family and friends; taking annual trips to Florida, visiting relatives near and far, attending church services, church fellowships and Armenian picnics; and listening and dancing to music of all kinds. Jerry created excitement wherever he went and he loved meeting new people. He called all his nieces and nephews "oski tops" (a piece of gold) and we considered him the same.
Our sincere thanks for the loving support and care from his doctors, nurses and staff, his case manager and all his care takers. Our sincere gratitude to Father Aved Terzian for his comfort and support to Jerry and his family.
A Visiting Hour will be held Thursday, April 8 from 10-11am followed by a Funeral Service at 11am in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
