SHREWSBURY-Jesse P. Murray, 88, of Shrewsbury died Thursday, Sept. 21 at UMass Memorial Healthcare after a long illness following brain surgery.
His loving wife of 57 years, Katherine D. (Durell) Murray died in 2000. He leaves two children, Beth Anne Murray of Shrewsbury and Christopher D. and his wife Kathie Murray of Astoria, OR; a brother, Richard and his wife Germaine Murray of Stanford, CT; three grandchildren, a great granddaughter, a dear friend of the family, Robert and Kimberly Aldrich and their daughter Kristen of Worcester, nieces and nephews. Two brothers and a sister predeceased him.
He was born in Portland, ME the son of David and Martha (Gorman) Murray. He graduated from Portland Schools and was a 50 year resident of Shrewsbury. He was a WWII Navy veteran. Mr. Murray was an Executive for Remington Rand Corporation for 40 years before retiring. Mr. Murray was a founding member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shrewsbury and was active in its Men's Club where he also was the leader of the Christmas Tree Sales. He was the leader of Boy Scout Troop 29, a Sunday School Teacher, and was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans and did volunteer work at Jerimiah's Inn in Worcester. Jesse was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also a wonderful friend and if you had him touch your life you were truly blessed.
The funeral will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 440 Main St., Shrewsbury. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Spencer. Visiting hours will be held Monday, Sept. 25, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St., W. Boylston.
