SHREWSBURY-Jo-Anne L. Cronin, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Friday, May 15, 2026 after a period of declining health.
A longtime teacher and friend to so many. Jo-Anne was born in Worcester on May 2, 1942 daughter to the late, Timothy F. and Florence M. (Dubios) Cronin. She attended Worcester Public Schools, graduating in 1964 prior to earning both her Bachelors and Masters degrees through Worcester State College. She was an extremely proud math teacher in the Worcester Public School system for 38 years, 28 years at Forest Grove Middle School and 10 years at Burncoat High School, before retiring in 2003. She was a longtime contributor to Worcester State College and part of the Alumni Association. She enjoyed tennis in her earlier years, belonging to both the Worcester and Paxton tennis clubs, she also belonged to the Friday afternoon club, the Forest Grove Lunch Group, the Supper Club-Lunch Bunch and the Burncoat Group. Jo-Anne also loved to bowl and was still bowling up until January of this year. She was a devoted catholic belong to St. Anne’s Church, the Guild of Our Lady of Providence, The Guild of St. Agnes and Christ the King Church. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, never missing any of their events. She was known for making chocolate treats for all and writing poems for special occasions. She will be missed by all who loved her.
She leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and so many friends. Her siblings, Shirley St. Francis, Robert Cronin, Neil Cronin, Danny Cronin and Arthur Cronin all predeceased her.
Visting Hours are Thursday, May 21 from 4 to 7pm at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 22, at 11am in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike. Burial will be private in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may made to the Neil and Jo-Anne Cronin Endowed Scholarship at Worcester State University c/o the Worcester State Foundation Inc. and can be mailed to Worcester State University PO Box 20248 Worcester, 01602 or online at www.alumni.worcester.edu
