Joan Whiting

Joan Ashey Whiting, 96, died peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Knollwood Nursing facility in Worcester, Ma. She was a life long resident of Worcester and West Boylston. Joan was the wife of the late Alfred N. Whiting, Esq. They were married for 47 years. Joan was predeceased by her parents Marguerite (Robinson) and Harold Ashey of Worcester and her brother, Rev. John P. Ashey.

She leaves her son, W. Holt Whiting (Patricia) of Durham, N.C. and her daughter Anne (Robin) Whiting Hall (Bob) of Barrington, R.I. She is survived by three grandchildren, Elizabeth Whiting Wilkinson (Ray) of Durham, N.C.; Elizabeth (Betsey) Hall Gresh (Andy) of Seekonk, MA and Christopher Whiting of Buxton, N.C. Her grandson, Timothy N. Whiting predeceased Joan. Joan also leaves three gt.grandchildren: Connor McNulty and Jack McNulty of Seekonk, MA and Amelia Wilkinson of Durham, N.C. Joan was a 1938 graduate of the Bancroft School and a 1940 graduate of Mt. Vernon College in Washington, D.C.

As an active volunteer in the Worcester community, Joan was a member of the Bancroft School Alumnae Association, Worcester Children"s Friend Society, Worcester Junior League, Worcester Audubon Society, the West Boylston Land Trust and the First Unitarian Church of Worcester. Joan was a former member of Tatnuck C.C. and the Worcester Club.

We will forever be grateful to Vivian Asante, Joan's caregiver for the last 21 months. Vivian gave our mother exceptional care, love and friendship. She has become a cherished friend and confident to our family. Thank you Vivian.

There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 pm. on Sunday, September 24th in the West Boylston Room at Briarwood Community Center , 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joan's memory may be made to Bancroft School, 110 Shore Dr., Worcester, MA 01605, Tower Hill Botanical Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston,MA 01505 or West Boylston Historical Society, 65 Worcester St., West Boylston, MA 01583
