John W. Barrett

WORCESTER
Rev. John W. Barrett, 82, died Thurs., April 17, in the Falmouth Hospital.
Father Barrett was born in Cambridge on Sept. 7, 1925, the son of John W. and Florence E. (Danehy) Barrett. After being ordained a priest at the Oblate College of Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. on June 2, 1952, he volunteered for the Japanese Missions and served there for 20 years. He obtained a Master of Science Degree in Public Communication from Boston University Graduate School and came to the Diocese of Worcester as Director of Communications in November, 1972. He served the Diocese in this capacity for 23 years, retiring in 1995.
He leaves two brothers, Francis L. Barrett of E. Falmouth and Raymond S. Barrett of Wellesley and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wed., April 23, at 11 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge St. Burial will be at 3 PM in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown. Visiting Hours will be held Tues., April 22, from 6 to 8 PM with a Wake Service at 7 PM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to, The Daily Television Mass, 49 Elm St., Worcester, 01609. Callahan & Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. is handling arrangements.
