WEBSTER, MA/PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL - John "Jack" Richard Bomba Sr. of Webster , formally of Palm Beach Gardens and The Villages, FL died Thursday, Dec. 14 at the Hospice at Coes Pond.
He leaves five children, John R. Bomba, Jr. of Princeton and Webster, Keith Bomba of Newington, CT, Karen Bomba of Crescent Springs, KY, Laurie Bomba of Mission Hills, KS and Kristen Bellaire of Arlington, VA; three sisters, Esther Hafey of The Villages, FL, Katherine Viel of Oxford, MA and Patricia Hurst of Andover, CT; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A brother, Paul E. Bomba, Jr. predeceased him.
He was born in Rochdale on August 19, 1937 the son of Paul E. and Elizabeth Bomba. He attended Leicester Public Schools and graduated from St. Peter's Central Catholic High School where he was President of the graduating class of 1955. He was also named to the T&G All City Football Team in 1954; playing both offensive and defensive end. Jack was Co-Captain of St. Peter's first hockey team in 1955. He went on to graduate from Holy Cross College. Jack spent over 20 years in the USAF on active duty and in the reserves and as a member of the New York Air National Guard and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF Reserves. Jack was a pilot with American Airlines for 30 years before retiring as a Captain in 1997.
Jack had a life long interest in music, as professional soloist and more recently in a cappella in a men's chorus in Palm Beach FL. Jack enjoyed many athletic pursuits especially running and tennis.
The funeral will be Tuesday, Dec. 19 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St with a Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St., Worcester. Visiting hours will be Monday, Dec. 18 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
