John E Coates

WORCESTER-John E. Coates, 78, of Worcester passed away Tuesday, December 6 at home. He leaves his companion of 54 years, Lorna Farquharson; six children, John Coates, Jr., Eugene Coates, Ethel Gasque, Melisa Coates, Phyllip Farquharson, Andrew Farquharson and two step-children, Bennie Coates and Meshia Coates; many grandchildren, six siblings, Richard, Walter, Robert, Raymond, Milton Coates and Ethel Wilson predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Eugene and Rose (Jones) Coates.

John worked for 30 years at Best Rest Manufacturing. He then worked for six years at Hallson Manufacturing company, before retiring in 2003. He was a longtime member of Mount Olive Pentecostal Church.

John was an avid sports fan, he loved to watch or listen to his sports, especially baseball and his favorite team, the Red Sox. John also had a passion for dog and horse racing.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 15 at 11am in Callahan Fay Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Wednesday, December 14 from 5 to 7pm at the funeral home.
