John R. Courtney, 86, of Worcester died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 7 in the Millbury Healthcare Center.
He leaves six children, John Robert and his wife Caroline Courtney of Worceter; Kathleen Rogers of Long Island, NY; Judith and her husband Thomas Griffin of Worcester; Eileen Lahair of Sutton; Joyce and her husband Michael Evans of Oxford and Cynthia Courtney and her companion Mario Monaco of Worcester; seven grandchildren five great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. His former wife Beatrice K. (Janusauskas) Courtney died Oct. 16. A brother, Paul H. Courtney and a sister, Janice Bellino predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Peter J. and Ellen G. (Ryder) Courtney and graduated from Worcester Vocational High School and served in the Navy during WWII.
John was a safety inspector for the Dept. of Labor retiring in 1985, prior to that he was a long time member, former business agent and former President of the Local %23107 Carpenters Union in Worcester.
The funeral will be held Friday, Nov. 10, from Callahan and Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. at 9:00 AM with a Mass in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln St at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nazareth Home, 77 Mulberry St., Leicester, 01524
