John J. "Jack" Cronin 78 of 11 Ruth St. died Wednesday (April 16) at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Patricia R. (Sullivan) Cronin, two sons, John J. Cronin Jr. of Worcester and Paul F. Cronin of Orchard Park, NY, five daughters, Kathleen M. Dailey of Worcester, Maureen A. Vistica of Aloha, OR, Patricia M. Peterson of Lynnfield, Eileen M. Cronin of Waltham and Anne-Marie Leahy of Leicester, a brother Eugene F. Cronin Jr. of Worcester, a sister, Mary T. Maguire of Naples, FL, 17 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Eugene F. and Anna L. (Vail) Cronin. He graduated from South High School.
He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and served on the USS Ranger CV4 in the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans
He was a Worcester Police Officer for 42 years, retiring as Lieutenant in 1990.
He was a founding member of Saint Charles Borromeo Church, where he was active in volunteer work. He was also a member of the Worcester Police Relief, Massachusetts Police Association, Ranger CV4 Reunion Group and the Main South American Legion Post %23341. He enjoyed Traveling, Gardening and Walking.
A Funeral will be held Tuesday (April 22) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 9 Hammond St.(www.faybrothers.com) with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Saint Charles Borromeo Church 341 June St. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery. Calling Hours are Monday (April 21) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
