John R. "Dick" Deely, 81, of 61 Packachog Village, died Thursday, October 17, in his home after an illness.
He leaves his wife, Rita A. (Goguen) Deely, two sons, John F. Deely and Richard J. Deely both of Worcester; two daughters, Kathleen Vessela of Southbridge and Gina Deely of Worcester; a stepson Richard W. Short of Auburn; a brother, Joseph Deely of Warren Robbin, GA; two sisters, Marguerite LaMunt and Teresa Roselund both of Worcester; three grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Two sisters, Mary Ferguson of Worcester and Martha Cichon of Connecticut predeceased him. He was born in Waltham, son of Peter and Theresa (Hanley) Deely. He was a truck driver for Pally Tobacco Co. for many years, retiring in 1995. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the European, African and the Mid eastern Theaters. He graduated from St. John's High School. He was a member and Commander of the Main South American Legion Post %23 341and a member of it's executive Board. He was a member and Vice Commander of the Voltaire 40 & 8. He was a member of North American Martyrs Church.
A funeral will be held Saturday, October 19, from Fay Brothers Funeral Home (faybrothers.com) 9 Hammond St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in North American Martyrs Church 8 Wyoma Dr. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum, Worcester. Calling hors are Friday, October 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family ask that flowers be omitted. Member of the Main South American Legion Post %23 342 will meet at the funeral home Friday, Octer 16 at 7 p.m. to recite their ritual.
